About the Welfare Fund
Anyone affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease resident in the UK may apply for an individual grant from the NACC Welfare Fund if they are on a low income and have a specific need arising from their IBD. People applying do not have to be NACC members. Grants do not exceed £300 for any one item and a person may only receive one grant in a twelve month period. Applications can be for any item or need which arises as a consequence of someone having Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease.

Examples of recent grants

replacement washing machine or dryer.
installation of a telephone for emergencies.
new clothing because of sudden change in weight.
partial installation of a downstairs toilet.
new bedding.
special education or retraining costs.
a convalescent holiday.

Recurring household bills or debts cannot be considered, and people should seek help from the local Social Services or Department of Social Security. People who have an ileostomy are usually referred to the Welfare Fund of the Ileostomy and Internal Pouch Group.

How to apply
Forms are available from the NACC Office. The form requires confirmation from the person's doctor that they have Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn's Disease and confirmation from a social worker, vicar, teacher or similar person who is aware of the general circumstances of the applicant.

The names of applicants and their circumstances are known only to the five members of the NACC Welfare Fund Committee.
